   Staff Turnover
Order has been restored and we are now back at full strength after six months at 50% manning. So far, 2020 has seen an addition of two new faces within Course Design, SSgt Rees & Sgt Longden. We say our farewells to WO2 Kinsley and SSgt Hathaway who are both posted in the coming months.
School Improvements & Blended learning
With huge changes to the RAPTC Instructors & AAPTI Courses now in their second year, most smaller courses have followed suite and no longer look like the poor cousins. The department is always looking for ways to improve the student learning experience, either by new uses of IT and media or by varying the approach to delivery. Increasing our SMART board capability and training has
Blended Learning
allowed us to blend theory and practical lessons more efficiently, resulting in a more dynamic way of teaching and better interaction and engagement with the students. All exams have now moved from paper to digital, meaning a better marking capability and also enabling an effective data analytics tool to highlight common areas of shortfalls (as well as doing our piece for the environment).
Training Excellence Symposium
Pirbright held its first training excellence symposium in 2019, it invited all training establishments in the group with some external agencies to come and share best practices, allowing others to take away key parts to enhance their own training work place. 18 stands in total, CDC showcased “Train right, Test right” delivered by OC CDC Capt Jessey, SSgt Hathaway and myself. Delivering an insight to the Army Physical Training System (APTS), new fitness test and our new resources like the management tool.
CDC not everyone’s first choice
“It’s not for me”, “Not why I joined the Corps” are just some of the comments I have heard RAPTCIs say during our Corps gatherings; and to be honest as a second tour Sgt, I also had my reservations. It’s true, some of the work can suck the morale out of your soul when updating each and every course for hours on end; but between those regular but essential updates, the team get to create new ways of delivery and shape course content that has a direct impact on the quality of the soldier or officer that leaves the ASPT. From a personal perspective, I feel I am now current in all areas of PD doctrine that will fully arm me when I embark on the challenges the RAPTCI faces in the Fd Army. I for one am glad I took myself out of my comfort zone to work in CDC and I would recommend this job for anyone who is looking to develop themselves and add another “string to their bow”.
