WO2 (QMSI) S Hawkins RAPTC
USA Tour 19
Our 2019 season began in April with a
match against the Int Corp at Mill Ride
GC; a new team and venue for RAPTC golfers who produced a strong performance to leave with a win.
Later in April saw us take on the Royal Armoured Corps at Tidworth Garrison GC. After taking a 2-0 lead unfortunately the team were pegged back as the match finished all square at 2-2. We will be back in 2020 to hopefully regain the honours.
In June, ten RAPTCI’s both serving and retired jetted off to Myrtle Beach in the USA on the 2019 RAPTC Golf tour. The tour saw them play five excellent courses over a week period. Please don’t forget to ask WO2 Al Murray and Mr Steve Bate about their shortcut back to the hotel one evening!
July saw the annual pilgrimage to Saunton, Devon for both the Army individual Championships and the Inter Corps
2019 has been another great year for RAPTC Golf with a good mix of events running throughout the
season. It has been warming to see a number of new serving and retired members joining the Society. Matches have taken place against both civilian and military teams, placed together by our matchday Secretary – WO2 Steve Turner who has done a great job.
Championships. A worthy note is to mention WO2 Al Murray who reached the semi final of the plate competition, a great achievement. The team faced very stiff competition from the off but represented well, often going down narrowly against low single figure players.
The notional end to the RAPTC Golfing season saw 38 RAPTC golfers gather at Breadsall Priory, Derby for the annual Festival of Golf (FOG). The competition
saw a great mix of both the serving and association sides of the house mix and compete over the 2 days at a great location and facility. The winners are detailed below:
