On 19 Sep 19, I was posted from ATR Winchester to 1SG at Mons Barrack in Aldershot. Since coming here, it has been a real eye opener but the good thing for me is 1SG
enjoy PT, Sport and AT.
Battalion life has been really busy since I joined, supporting Coy cadres and pre promotion course whilst also preparing personnel for Op SHADER (Iraq) in Dec 20 and Op CABRIT (Estonia) in Mar 21.
At the end of Jul 20, 1SG will be moving back to Catterick, closer to their home land, which is great news for them and potential recruitment. As for the gym set up and location, it looks great and I am looking forward to moving up North for a change.
1SG like to keep up their traditions. The gym staff and I organised Inter Coy Highland Games and a Strong Man event. Tartan and Celtic kilts were everywhere and the passion when they were competing was great to see.
In Jan 20 I managed to get a team to compete at the infantry Snowboarding Championship in Flachau, Austria. The team
that I took out had never strapped their feet into snowboards before, but after just 3 weeks of training (and falling on their backsides), we managed to get 2nd place in the novice Infantry Championship, a huge achievement for 1SG.
As for my first Major Unit, its most definitely a learning curve and an enjoyable one at that. Working with the 1SG has been an absolute pleasure so far. If you have the opportunity to work with them make sure you practice your drill. They love it.
