As another year goes by, I find myself in the latter stages of my employment with 3rd Battalion The Rifles. Firmly embedded into my Physical Development role, it is easy to identify that the Battalion are making exremely positive developments through a period that has seen considerable change. The last year has proved both challenging and demanding but above all else productive, bringing significant positivity and inspiration to carry forward into 2020.
During an exceptionally busy forecast, the Battalion
has continued to evolve through its persistent engagement and commitment to Physical Development. The changes in Physical Employment Standards and the complimentary training methodology have been accepted and firmly embraced. This has resulted in a culture change that is clearly evident and easy to identify. The recent uplifts in physical training equipment, coupled with Gymnasium improvement packs, have been well received and have proved beneficial in the modernisation
of our facilities. These improvements have directly enhanced the engagement in both structured and non- structured physical training and the endless positive comments are echoed across the Battalion.
Sport consistently remains at the forefront of Battalion life, traditionally a football Battalion, emphasis continues to be placed on supporting and driving the football team to success. However, the sporting achievement this year belonged to the Boxing team, who not only produced an exceptional Inter Coy Boxing night but were also crowned the winners of both the HMNB Clyde and the 1 Brigade Inter Unit Boxing Competition’s. The cross-country team remains as consistent as ever and produced another remarkably good result, with a close second-place finish in the Tri Service Scotland Cross Country League. British Army Warrior Fitness has gained substantial traction with the Battalion fielding both a competitive male
and female team that competed in the 51 Brigade Regional Leagues. An excellent performance and second place regional finish from our male team resulted in them being selected to compete in the Army BAWF finals. The Battalion’s sporting prowess has undoubtably grown and flourished over the year with participation and involvement continuing to expand.
This has resulted in a successful sporting year and one we are keen to be emulate in 2020.
Adventure Training is still widely supported, with members of
