THE ROYAL LANCERS (QUEEN ELIZABETHS’ OWN)
SSgt (SSI) S Burnell RAPTC
The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... be happy with what you have while working for what you want! The Royal Lancers endured a testing 12 months during which they re-subordinated from 12X to 1X on 29 Nov 19., However before the training year commenced the unit were crowned the 3XX GOC Iron Trophy major unit and overall winners 2018/19.
The summer UK North Festival of Sport produced a spectacular event attracting athletes from the length and breadth of the region.
D Squadron conducted UAAT in Jul 19 in the Lake District. What a venue for some off-piste riding and achieving the aims of AT! D Sqn OC also planned and executed a strategy development visit to the MOD Building, London and Joint Headquarters, Northwood for selected Officers and SNCOs within the regiment. This visit provided a better understanding of strategic planning at higher formations and why fastballs come in from Div and Bde.
The unit have hosted various sporting events, UK North BAWF Event 1 and RL Vs RAPTC Cricket 20/20 match. The match was a gathering of true legends from the UK North RAPTC cohort. The team put an excellent shift in with some awesome boundaries and banter to match but the result saw the Royal Lancers win with 107 runs and 3 overs’ remaining. An impressive display by Sgt (SI) Jimmy Hull RAPTC scoring 42 runs was outshone by his epic fail of a dropped catch in the outfield.
The RAPTC Festival of Golf was outstanding from start to finish, less said about my golfing ability; the wheels well and truly fell off! However, the social lived up to expectations, amazing food, good drink and the old boys spinning tales of the unexpected. Esprit de Corps!
The RAC Honorary Colonel, Col Holmes visited the unit and discussed the importance of mental health awareness and the relationship with physical fitness and mental resilience.
