  DEFENCE MEDICAL SERVICES, WHITTINGTON DMS(W)
WO2 (QMSI) E Hargreaves RAPTC SSgt (SSI) D Woolridge RAPTC
“The heart and home of the Defence Medical Services”
The tri-service gymnasium team’s mission: Deliver and Accommodate, PD, AT and Sport to all, with total professionalism and understanding of Tri -service needs!
DMS(W) home of the Surgeon Generals HQ (the Director Medical Policy and Operational Capability, and the Director Healthcare Delivery and Training) as well as the Defence College of Healthcare Education and Training. Primarily a Phase 2 and 3 Tri-Service training establishment with Approximately 800 students’ and 400 permanent staff to conduct PD for.
The Physical Training Department consist of 4 PTIs; 2 x Army, 1 x RAF and 1 x Navy. The PTI’s work extremely hard to continue to deliver the performance orientated, evidence-based approach to physical conditioning within the PD programme daily. Furthermore they continue to provide assistance to SSgt Woolridge (2ic) hosting events for Regional Command and UK Midlands such as the Wattbike Individual and Team Time Trial (TT) Competition, UK Midlands Cross Country Finals and hosting the 1st GoRow Military Instructor course workshop. A mention and congratulations for Cpl now Sgt (SI) Sadler RAPTC on successfully completing the RAPTC selection and then completing the Class 1 course shortly after.
“One Team” PTIs play a huge part in the smooth running of PD branch by delivering the APTS to over 800 students and 400 Permanent staff, as well as juggling the increasing demand of the daily PD battle rhythm and assisting the hosting of Community engagement packages and sporting events. Key events in 2019/20 included; Cpl Butler’s (Army) task to host a hugely
successful Tug of War Competition within a two-day study period for the Royal Army Dental Corps. Lpt Stephen (Navy) provided the Tri -service establishment with a largely participated 100 Mile club, which gave Military and MOD Civil servants the incentive to get back into shape after Christmas leave period by running/rowing 100 miles in 12 weeks. Sgt Brabbs (RAF) provided assurance to the team, committing himself to finish his BA (Hons) Business and Management with predicted 1st class honours.
WO2 Hargreaves overseas the whole department but plays a huge part as the Tri-Service establishment UATO supporting and delivering Type 2/3 AT. Including a Type 2 Multi activity package to the HQ in Cyprus as well as assisting 101 Log Brigade HQ with the delivery of a Ski touring Exped. WO2 Hargreaves as a tribute to remembrance also provided a discussion about WW2 to his son’s primary school as part of a community engagement package, which gave the children the opportunity to discuss WW2 in assembly and play around in an Army ambulance.
As the QMSI and responsible for SSgt Woolridge and the team of Tri-Service AAPTI’s I have seen first-hand their dedication to develop the SP within this unit by producing and delivering a first class PTP. I feel this busy training establishment post has been exciting for SSgt Woolridge and has allowed him to development his management skills. He has been in post for 18 months and has done a great job in mentoring all of the AAPTI’s. This assignment has been the perfect platform for him to develop, learn new skills and gain greater knowledge as a RAPTCI. Due to his commitment and hard work he was nominated for the RAPTCI Person’s trophy where he was “pipped” for the top spot.
