BBC is located within the glorious grounds of the National Sports Centre, Lilleshall which provides the ideal environment and back drop for all courses. Funded by the
Royal British Legion and delivered by Army, Civilian and Carnegie Great Outdoors coaches, providing adaptive sport and AT activities for the wounded, injured and sick (WIS) personnel. Multi Activity Course (MAC) is the primary 5-day package delivered here which along with activities such as climbing, wheelchair basketball, archery, mountain biking and clay shooting the specialist coaches also focus on coaching models/techniques.
Significant changes over the past 12 months include an increase of the Veterans MAC to 6 annually along with 24 regular serving MAC’s and 8 sports courses covering 5 day more advanced packages of those activities mentioned above. Both RAPTC roles within the centre are the only regular serving and have seen myself replace WO2 (QMSI) Marc Murphy RAPTC as he departed to become a civilian, further to this Sgt (SI) P Gurung RAPTC took over from SSgt (SSI) J Jallow RAPTC in a unique ERI role which includes working alongside a Technical Advisor on a daily basis assisting with adaptive activities for the injured.
Outside the centre we remain active as a team, each have our individual sports/goals, conduct AT annually and have entered strong teams into both the Midlands Wattbike Championships/ League along with the Army Indoor Rowing League. Sgt Gurung
continues to train and represent both the RAPTC/Army at Brazilian Jujutsu and is also focusing on Football Coaching.
RAPTCIs’ can assist units by signposting WIS and unit welfare staff to the MAC. Applications submitted directly to BBC Office Manager: Jacqueline.Gunnell681@mod.gov.uk, further to this feel free to direct any Veterans that would benefit from a 5-day course of coaching, team activities, comradery, free food and accommodation, applications directed to Recovery Operations Assistant Manager: SGreen@britishlegion.org.uk
