2019 has been another busy year for the Regiment providing first line communications to the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, commitments to OP SHADER, OP TEMPERER and
numerous major exercises. The Regiment’s main effort for the year was EX ARRCADE FUSION which was extremely well executed. Concurrent activity in the background has also been thick and fast not forgetting sporting commitments and the transition to the new PES. The Regiment is fortunate to be stationed in MOD Stafford alongside 1st and 16th Signal Regiment with great facilities providing the perfect platform for the APTS, SSgt’s “Skin rubbing” Gledhill and “Coach” Carter have proved to be great Oppo’s when fighting all things black and red.
The Regiment has had another successful year on the sporting front winning the Royal Signals Morrison cup, and both the Male and Female UK Midlands Athletics competitions. The team were subsequently invited to attend the Army Athletics finals and finished 4th amongst a strong field. The Regimental Football team reached the final of McBean Cup and was extremely unfortunate
not to walk away with the silverware, we are still waiting for official confirmation from “VAR”. Further successes worthy of mention include several 1st place finishes in Badminton, Orienteering, Skiing, volleyball and Angling. The Regiment were firmly committed to Race the Sun, Lanyard Trophy and EX TRAILWALKER achieving good results across the board. SSgt Danny Rogers and I had the opportunity to host Wigan Warriors ladies RLFC during their pre- season training camp. The day was hugely successful building on leadership, motivation and team cohesion.
As the Regiment look forward, 2020 will see a large-scale overseas deployment on EX ARRCADE DEFENDER. Commitments to OP SHADER remain high priority with a view to retaining several of our sports titles and supporting the events. The work on transition to Non GCC RFT(S) has already begun, a change I have no doubt the Regiment will embrace moving forward. As the Royal Corps of Signals celebrates its centenary year it is a pleasure to be part of a motivated, well-oiled unit looking forward to further success.
