Iam currently in my second year at 30th Signal Regiment and it has been a great journey with massive upscaling and improvements throughout the P&RTC.
30th Signal Regiment is renowned for being an extremely busy but, successful operational unit also known as The Globetrotters. In my tenure the 5 various Sqn’s have deployed to the Middle East, Germany, Poland, US, Brunei, Cyprus, Gibraltar, China, Mali, Nigeria, etc. They are currently held at readiness and troops are on a 4, 8 and 12hrs notice to move. Most recent being the Caribbean crisis where troops were instantly deployed with immediate impact.
To that end it is sometimes quite difficult to capture all Sqn’s especially during Programme THOR, where it is even more important to coach Strength and Conditioning in a safe and controlled manner.
Even with all the above going on the Commanding Officer and Second in Command still provide support and empower me to ensure PD features as one of the Regiments top priorities.
strides. With monthly Sqn Health committee meetings and a big monthly Regimental Unit Health Committee MATT 2 standards have increased by ten percent with soldiers upgraded and MSKI’s reducing by around 8 percent in the last 18 months. A great achievement from the Rehab and Recon team.
The Regt has also been very active on the AT side. This includes expeditions in Malta, Norway, France and Capel Curig as well as lots of other places. Under the careful eye of the RCMO and AT Guru Capt T Dudley there are plenty of chances to carry out AT over a widespread area including several activity packages.
The Regiment also competed in the Race to the Sun 19, where they came a close second, the Lanyard Trophy where the Vets and Female teams came first and Trailwalker which was 100km over the South Downs, pretty cheeky but great efforts all around.

The Regiment are also very keen on their sports. They have managed to successfully represent in most of the Midlands sports competitions including hosting the Festival of Sports and participating in the Female Festival of Sports (FFOS). The Regiment has a proud history of Boxing and SSgt K Evans trained 9 boxers winning the prestigious 1 Sig Bde Boxing Competition held here at 30t Signal Regiment, becoming the Corps Champions.
In closing I feel very honoured and lucky to be assigned to a hardworking, diligent and active unit. Not only are the regiment embracing Programme THOR, they are happy with adapting their training methods and with the big changes that have occurred in the PTP already.
They are at the forefront of Sport and AT and are adaptable in terms of rehabilitation and reconditioning. To that end I feel very proud to be serving at 30th Signal regiment and I suspect 2020 will be another busy but fruitful year.

The regiment has a large infrastructure including a 25m swimming pool, Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), 2 x gym halls, 2 x squash courts, 1 x tennis court, 1 X boxing gym,1 x basketball court and separate strength and conditioning suites.
To add these facilities, we have managed to procure more PTE, a new FOB 20 and a 20m Rig which has massively helped in delivering the APTS. The gym space has now changed with the addition of a Specific S & C suite, brand new equipment and an uplift of the new SCR Kit. Other improvements made within
this training year have been to the regimental swimming pool and with great support from WO1 (SMI) Haniver RAPTC and Regional Command we have been able to conduct Weak / Non-Swimmer and STA courses.
