Defence Academy Football
Maj Stephen Molumphy
SEVERAL STUDENTS ON ACSC 24 were members of the Defence Academy Football Team, alongside students on the Intermediate course, which competed in the Army Minor Units Football Cup Competition. This entailed training twice a week, participating in several challenge matches and successfully defeating 2 Military Intelligence Battalion in the quarter finals of the competition. With the COVID-19 lockdown occurring in early 2021, the decision was taken by Army HQ in May to cancel the competition until the following year, and unfortunately the Defence Academy football season was prematurely finished.
Nonetheless, many great friendships were formed during the training sessions, in-house games, and external challenge matches which took place in a wide spectrum of weather conditions! Under the leadership of Manager and Coach, Dave Evans, it provided a welcome break from our academic studies and a fantastic opportunity to play football with numerous fellow international students from across the globe.
In addition to this team, many ACSC students met weekly to play together and also increase the network

of friends on the course. These games were great fun with much laughter and banter between the large numbers of international students who took part. It
is beyond doubt that many new friendships were formed during these weekly football sessions and will be sorely missed once the course has finished.
