and UK Defence. In keeping with the course’s focus on integration, Space Command gave the course an overview of the UK’s newest Joint Command and the importance of space as a critical enabler across society and government.
At midday ACSC 24 was treated to
a flypast from the F-35B Lightning, demonstrating its manoeuvrability
and awesome power. Following this breathtaking display of airpower, we were able to refuel with the outstanding food provided by 3 Mobile Catering Squadron.
In addition to the main visit, a handful of lucky students were fortunate enough to undertake Air Experience Flights on Atlas and Voyager aircraft. The flights took students to sunny Cardiff, with the opportunity for an informal discussion with the aircrew on the capabilities
of the strategic lift platforms. A real highlight of the day was the spectacular views of the Cotswold countryside through the open cargo door!
The visit left ACSC students with a
real understanding of how the RAF
is rising to the challenges of the ever-evolving security environment.
Of key success to the visit were the people. It is evident that the RAF is made up of airmen and women who are enthusiastic and take real pride
in delivering an agile, adaptable, and capable air force, enabling a decisive air power contribution in support of the UK Defence Mission.

No airpower experience would be complete without fast jets, ISR, and transport aircraft, and of course the ASCPV delivered. The combat air
team especially provided the course with comprehensive briefs on such capabilities as Typhoon, where the staff
brought to life the versatility of this highly capable aircraft.
Looking to emerging and future capability, students were briefed on the RAF’s 216 Squadron and on UK Space Command. Working with the Rapid Capabilities Office, 216 are developing capability at the cutting edge of innovation and technological development and will operate the first swarming drone capability for the RAF
