 Kermit Roosevelt Lecture 2022: The visit of General James C McConville (US Army) and the Chief of the General Staff to
the RMAS Central Library

Following the Kermit Roosevelt Lecture on Wednesday 13th April 2022, the RMAS Central Library had the pleasure of hosting
General James Charles McConville, the 40th Chief of the US Army Staff; the out-going Chief of General Staff, Sir Mark Carlton-Smith KCB CBE and the Commandant, Major
bibliographic material held in the Royal Military Academy’s Central Library collection. The theme of the display shown to General McConville and General Sir Mark Carlton Smith, were books which had also been held in the private library collections of senior British officers during the
 General Duncan Capps CBE.
It was, therefore, an immense privilege to welcome General McConville as the latest speaker in this historic series of lectures
American War of Independence. On display was the historic 1812 Army List showing the establishment of Sandhurst, a prized 1628 edition on fortification, and Major General Lloyd’s The history of the late war in Germany between the King of Prus- sia and the empress of Germany and her allies.
The RMAS Central Library had
the honour of hosting the very first
Kermit Roosevelt Lecture in May
1947, which was given by Lieu-
tenant General A.C. Wedemeyer
(US Army). It was, therefore, an
immense privilege to welcome
General McConville as the latest
speaker in this historic series of lectures which has cemented the post-war special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
General McConville was also shown the Eisenhower bust, a copy of the RMC Record detailing General Eisenhower’s visit to Sand- hurst in 1944, and a recording of General Eisen- hower’s inspirational speech to commissioning OCTU cadets a few months before D Day.
