EX Askari Storm Kenya
I received the hot weather pack in plenty of time before Christmas which meant I was able to break in a new pair of boots! On arriving at Beachley Barracks, I was directed to the signals wing, with whom I would be working over the course of the exercise and told my job role. There was little paperwork or administration needed aside from taking the Kenyan variant of the driver training matrix test.
During the exercise I was employed as the CV Cpl of the BG step-up; although different from my usual role of regimental signals detachment commander in a company it was so similar as to make no practi- cable difference. The platoon initialized a large number of vehicles and were patient with my inability to carry out all the tasks due to my unfamiliarity with all of the equipment being used. However, I soon got up to speed with some revision given on the job. During the first phase of the exercise we were based out of MOB SIMBA and were using K chat, a local variant of J chat, and having used the system previ- ously on tour I was quite proficient in its use. For the main part of the exercise I was out setting up, stripping down and working in the step-up which as I have mentioned is very similar to a company command post only a little larger.
I enjoyed the experience a lot and carrying out my work over an extended period of time was very beneficial. I have been asked by the RSWO if I would consider joining 1 RIFLES Signals Platoon, hopefully an indication that I could do the job proficiently.

Ex Noble Partner Georgia
Ex NOBLE PARTNER is a multinational exercise involving 13 different nations. This year 6RIFLES sent 10 Rfn to support A company 1 RIFLES who were embedded into the US 2nd cavalry regiment’s battlegroup. The exercise had a focus on joint air missions and combined urban operations but also saw Rfn defending radar stations overlooking Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi. With Georgia being one of this Bns DE Countries we were keen to support.
