                                  HRH Visit Full CCF
THE ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF CCF AT LUCTON SCHOOL!
2018 has been particularly special at Lucton, with it being the one hundredth anniversary of CCF at Lucton School! This was marked by a Royal visit during the Biennial Inspection from HRH Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester. The inspection, led by Col Knutton is always an important event on the calendar, giving cadets the opportunity to showcase their skills in some of the many areas they have worked hard on throughout the year; however, a particular emphasis on drill meant that they looked exceedingly smart this year and really did themselves proud throughout the visit.
One of the stands at the inspection, involved demonstrations of First Aid scenarios by our First Aid team, treating realistic head wounds and a compound fracture caused by a road traffic accident. Following a disappointing result at the National First Aid Competition in October, where
they narrowly missed out on a medal, the cadets have been keen to improve and came back in style at the Regional Competition, not only winning best CCF team, but also best overall team and best individual, with Cpl Aaron Powell only dropping one mark in his individual test!
The importance of First Aid in the school and particularly those aspects taught and delivered by the CCF, were marked last year by being awarded the St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes ‘First Aid Excellence Award’ for low risk organisations, which was presented to Major Derrigan at a glamourous award ceremony in London. It recognised the work done to promote First Aid training not only to staff, but also the ‘Heartstart’ qualifications achieved by all Year 8 cadets, the ‘St John Youth Award’ achieved by Year 10 cadets, as well as the competitions entered and real examples of our cadets saving lives
