REPORT
What a fabulous end to a great week over in Cowes. The Sun shone, and the wind appeared for the final day of this year’s Cowes Regatta, sparkling water, smiles and spinnakers lead to great champagne sailing.
Following the last day of racing the prize- giving ceremony took place with an opening speech from RSYC Past-Commodore Bob Trimble, who is also Chairman of Cowes Week Ltd 2024. Music played, racers clapped and cheered as they were presented with their trophies.
The Queen’s Cup, presented to the RSYC by Queen Victoria in 1897, stood proudly on the display table. This historic trophy is one of the most prestigious Cups presented during Cowes Week and was commissioned to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. She expressed that it would be raced for on the opening day of the world-famous Cowes Regatta.
We were delighted to present the Queen’s Cup to Katabatic, IRC1, skippered by Lance Adams, following his win on Saturday 27th July, the first day of Cowes racing and the RSYC sponsored Trophy Day. Not only was it great to see Lance racing in Cowes, it was even more meaningful that the trophy was awarded to a member of the RSYC. What a fantastic achievement for Lance and his team.
We hope to see them all at our prize-giving lunch on Saturday 23rd November. Where, once again, the Queen’s Cup will be on display at Gins Clubhouse.
