 12 RACING
Many of our Members did incredibly well competing this year and it was great to see them up on the podium collecting their prizes. Those of you who were over in Cowes may have seen our regular racers out on the start lines. Graham Deegan was out with his Flying 15, Akarana. Woof did very well skippered by Jo Richards, Eric Williams’ Folkboat Mimi was racing skippered by his son Philip. Other Club competitors were Spirit of Kudu - Mark Watkins, Chris Preston, who did well in Suvretta, Mostly Harmless, Antidote, NJOS, Cool Running, and Jibe Talking.
MDL TWILIGHT &
MDL SUMMER SERIES’
The MDL Twilight Series in May, and the subsequent MDL Summer Series in
June and July, brought many boats
out to enjoy some gentle racing with a variety of wind conditions One race was abandoned as the wind completely disappeared as the racers attempted to round the windward mark. Very high winds forecast for race 1 of the MDL Summer Series forced a cancellation.
Winners of the MDL Twilight Series were: Class 1, Magec, Mike Garvey
Class 2, Now or Never, Bob Gardner MDL Summer Series winners were:
1st, Jo, Ed Rogers
2nd, Magec, Mike Garvey
MDL DOUBLE HANDED SERIES
The very popular Double-Handed Series drew to its close on October 12th with
the last two races in The Solent. Sadly,
the MDL Island Double was lost due
to a complete lack of wind. Ironic
that the main RTI Race was very badly affected by severe weather and winds in excess of Force 7. Many of our Double-Handed entrants had hoped to use the MDL Island Double as their only rounding of the island this year. Attempts were made to reschedule but alas it was not possible for the usual reasons.
MDL WEYMOUTH DOUBLE
In spite of these races taking place over the early May Bank Holiday Weekend, the weather was delightful. All boats got a good start on Saturday morning, setting off at 08:05, light winds carrying the fleet towards their destination.
Taking most of the day, the racers enjoyed a smooth passage to arrive in the marina at Portland in time for some refreshments,
