RIVERHEAD HALL RESIDENTIAL CARE HOME VISIT
By SI Trevor Murphy
What started as a farewell tea for the Mayor of Driffield who has been a strong supporter of the Army Cadets, ended up in meeting other worthwhile groups in the community.
As part of our
community engagement
and also cadet in the
community (DofE) I
have been looking for a
group to engage with and luckily, I met one of the managers from Riverhead Hall Residential care home. We discussed my thoughts which were warmly accepted so on the 23rd April (St Georges Day) the Driffield Detachment turned up to spread a little cheer and get to know the residents.
The cadets soon got to know the residents and we even visited residents who were unable to leave their rooms, it was amazing to see how two hours of our time made the day for the residents we met, so much so, upon leaving, all the cadets asked when we could come back.
As the Detachment Commander I was so proud of the cadets and the way they conducted themselves, but this also means that we have found a worthy community that we can help out from time to time.
 C Company make a Splash
By SSI Donna Nixon
Paddle Sports Instructor Staff Sergeant Donna Nixon secured places with Doncaster Paddle Sports for C Company cadets to have a taster session of kayaking at the local swimming pool.
Aiming for adventure training at one star, the cadets have actively been encouraged to take part. So far Doncaster, Corps of Drums and Mexborough Detachments have attended, with each Detachment taking a turn weekly. The cadets were first fitted for their kayaks and equipment and then it was straight into the pool.
They were then taught proper use of paddles and had a go practicing. After having learnt how to safely leave a kayak, they then went
on to have quite a competitive game of pool football. The night went all too quickly, but all the cadets left grinning from ear to ear and will most definitely want to do it again.
    E COMPANY WEEKEND 5
By Lt Liz Fields
Over the Weekend of 27th-2th March E Company held an all star level testing weekend.
1 Star cadets had an intensive and in-depth weekend of Skill at Arms and Drill, 2 stars had progressive All Arms drill and Keeping Active. Whilst all of that was going on, a Junior Cadet Instructors Cadre was keeping our Junior NCOs busy with learning how they can improve themselves and their instructing techniques.
The OC's final parade gave everyone a chance to reflect on all their amazing achieve- ments over the weekend, concluding with an opportunity to showcase all the drill they had been perfecting throughout.
