Army Medical Services Netball Training Camp
Ex Medic Netrus 6-10 October 2015
The AMS netball team was an ad hoc number of individuals entering Inter-Corp competition with no prior training. The AMS Netball Secretary Major Winship noted the potential of the AMS team who played at 2014 Inter-Corp Competition. She then organised trials on 4th – 5th September 2015 which was opened to all members of the AMS.
This gave Capt Wright, the Coach, the ideal opportunity to select players to organise a squad and form teams to represent the AMS at Inter-Corp competition. The squad was later spilt into two team, AMS (A) and AMS (B). The teams consist of Medics, Nurses, Physio’s, Doctors, Dentists, Dental Nurses, Environmental Health experts, and Healthcare Assistants.
Ex Medic Netrus 6-10 October 2015, saw the AMS Netball team undertaking their first ever netball training camp/tour to Cyprus. This was made possible with funding from individuals’ units, the Army Sport Lottery, the Berlin Infantry Brigade Memorial Trust fund, and the Corp fund to offset the amount required from each individual as a personal contribution. We were fortunate to received funding for all QARANC members from the QA Association. This was my first time applying for funding from the Association. The application for funds was less complicated than I thought, mainly due to the advice given by Heather Duncombe, the QA Association Secretary, who explained what was

The training camp was situated within the Episkopi Garrison. Training was conducted in the mornings and matches were played in the afternoons. Ex Medic Netrus was a great success. The AMS Team played 12 matches across Episkopi, Akrotiri and Dhekelia. AMS (A) won all their matches including the Akrotiri netball tournament. The AMS (B) have shown significant improvement in their skills. Ex Medic Netrus gave the AMS Netball Squad a great opportunity
to play together, and bond as team. There was also opportunity for some well earned R&R, which saw the squad undertaking water sports and enjoying the local cuisine. The teams were noted to have made significant improvement in their skills at Inter-Corp level. The future of AMS netball looks positive and I am looking forward to what lies ahead.
