Page 44 - Shalom: The Peace That Comes From Being Whole
P. 44
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye
are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Then He introduced them to new cove-
nant truths as recorded in John, chapters 14
through 16. These words from the Master’s
lips are among my favorite Scriptures. I espe-
cially delight in His revelation of the promised
Holy Spirit that the Father would send.
That night, as He was on His way to the
cross, and eventually, to the Father, He spoke
of the peace (shalom) He would obtain for
them:
John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto
you, being yet present with you.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the
Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you all things, and bring
all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I
have said unto you.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace
I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I
unto you...
Of course, He would have said, “Shalom.”
These Hebrews may not have known all the
obtaining of His promise would entail, but
they knew the root of shalom is shalem, whole-
ness.
