TREATMENT OF AN OPEN FRACTURE
• Call for an ambulance immediately
• Prevent any movement
• Reduce the risk of infection by wearing gloves
• Control the blood loss by dressing around the wound
• DO NOT apply any direct pressure on the protruding bone
• Use sterile non-fluffy dressings
• For additional support, particularly if there
is a delay in the emergency services arriving, you could consider strapping an uninjured leg to the injured one
• You MUST NOT try to realign the fracture. This should only be performed by medically trained professionals
• Treat for shock
