A What do you want cars to do in the future? Tell a partner your ideas. Then read the text.

                          ‘The Car of the Future

For many people in the world, having a car is a basic necessity, but it is a dangerous one.
The World Health Organization estimates that 1.2 million people die each year in traffic
accidents. Right now, the technology for self-driving cars exists, but not many people are
taking it seriously. I hope that they will very soon. I strongly believe that self-driving cars are
going to help us greatly in the future for two reasons: safety and productivity.
I believe that the cars of the future will be much safer because humans won't be driving
them. Self-driving cars will take bad drivers, such as irresponsible teenagers and drunk
drivers, off the road. They will also eliminate human error such as falling asleep at the wheel.
In a generation or two, I think traffic fatalities’ will have become a thing of the past.

Self-driving cars will also make the time we spend on the
road more productive. For example, while we’e sitting in traffic,
we can read or study. This will help us to use our time more
effectively. We will be more relaxed and happier, too.

Some people think that self-driving cars will never become
popular, but I disagree. Once people realize how many lives can
be saved by this technology, and how much more free time they
will have, they will no longer want to drive themselves. When
self-driving cars become available, everyone is going to want one. |)
