                           Shichi-Go-San

                            Shichi-Go-San  (“Seven-Five-Three’”)
                       is*Japanese  celebration.  People  have  many

                         fun  at  this  time  of  year.  Shichi-Go-San  takes
                         place  on  November  15  each  year  and  celebrates

                         different  stages  of  childhood.  Parents  celebrate
                         their  children’s  growth  and  pray  for  their

                         children’s  good  healths.  Every  children  receives
                         a  bag  of  candy.  Boys  receive  bags  of  candy

                         when  they  turn  three  and  five  years  old.  Girl
                         receive  them  when  they  turn  three  and  seven.

                         In  Japan,  people  think  these  are  important

                         ages  ina  child’s  life.  The  candy  is  shaped  like

                         a  stick.  All  the  candy  bags  have  a  picture  of
                         turtle  and  a  crane  on  them.  The  candy,  the

                         crane,  and  the  turtle  are  symbol  of  long  life.                  A  Shichi-Go-San  candy

                         national  celebration  or  a  personal  one,  such  as  a  birthday.  Answer  the  following  questions.

                            When  does  it  take  place?
                            What  does  the  event  celebrate?
                            Are  there  any  symbols  connected  with  the  event?
                            Who  celebrates  this  event?

                         questions  about  your  partner’s  celebration.

                         A:  Do  people  wear  any  special  clothing  on  that  day?

                         B:  Yes,  the  girls  wear  kimonos,  and  the  boys  wear  traditional  pants  called  hakama.
