                       1.  Most  transitive  phrasal  verbs  are  separable.   Who  picked  out  the  birthday  card?
                        The  object  may  come  after  the  phrasal  verb  or   Who  picked  the  birthday  card  out?
                        between  the  two  parts  of  the  phrasal  verb.

                       2.  When  the  object  is  a  pronoun  (me,  you,  him,  .  .  .).   /¥  She  didn’t  pick  it  out.  |  did.
                        it  comes  between  the  two  words.          X  She  didn’t  pick  out  it.

                      3.  ln  an  inseparable  phrasal  verb,  the  object  or   /¥  |came  across  an  interesting  article.
