                                                        What is beauty?

I read an interesting article about beauty the other day. I (1) came across / came up with
it when I was (2) looking after / looking up something online. The article (3) pointed out /

picked out that people around the world have different ideas about what beauty is. So many
different things can be considered beautiful—human beings, works of art, music, and nature.

Even if people (4) go along with / go over the idea that art, for example, is beautiful, they may not
like the same kind of art. One person might love modern art, but it might (5) turn off / turn up

                      another person.

One thing we do know is that beauty in all its different forms is something people just can't
                      (6) give in / give up. People need beauty just like they need oxygen or water. It (7) cheers them up /
shows them up when they are feeling sad, and it calms them down when they are feeling anxious.

Nobody can say for sure what beauty is, but some people have tried to (8) figure it out / think

it up. One artist wanted to discover something that everyone in the world agreed was beautiful.
He (9) came up with / came over an interesting idea, and he did experiments to test it. His

research (10) ended up / made up showing that people around the world share at least one idea: a
springtime scene with lakes, rivers, and forests is beautiful.
