14.7. Reported Speech: Commands, Advice, and Requests
Chef: “Stir the soup.” The chef told me to stir the soup.
Friend: “You shouldn't add sugar.” Her friend advised her not to add sugar.
Manager: “Can you help me?” The manager asked me to help her.
1. Use an infinitive phrase* to report commands. | Teacher: “Turn off your phones.”
The teacher told us to turn off our phones.
2. Often an infinitive phrase is used to report Jim: You should bake a chocolate cake.

Ann: “Could you turn off the oven?’
