1 READ the article about how Brendan Mullan motivates people to learn about
astronomy. What are some of the ways that Mullan communicates information?
“Hey Aliens, Earth for Sale.” With this advertisement written on a large sign, Brendan
Mullan began his science presentation. Mullan, an astrobiologist,' asks difficult questions
about the universe. The biggest question is why aliens have never visited our planet. As Mullan
explains, conditions on Earth are perfect to support life. As a result, it should be an excellent
place for aliens to live. Not only could they live here, Mullan explains, but they could travel
here easily. After all, we have sent astronauts into space for years. Nevertheless, no aliens
have ever appeared. For Mullan, however, this does not mean that there is no life on other
planets. In fact, he is convinced that in other parts of the universe, there must be life.
Mullan’s presentations captivate” audiences. They are just one way he shares his passion
for astrobiology. In addition, he uses social media, with podcasts about the universe for
scientists, students, and ordinary people. Mullan directs the planetarium? and observatory at
the Carnegie Science Center. The center allows people to see stars and planets in the dome‘ or
through telescopes. Mullan is an expert scientist and talented teacher with a unique sense of
humor. As a result, he makes astronomy fascinating to learn about.
