              Acute and chronic wounds are defined as wounds that do not heal in an orderly and timely set of
              reparative processes that produce anatomic and functional integrity over a period of 3 months. The
              most commonly encountered chronic wound is the lower extremity generally due to vascular
              insufficiency, age, diabetic or nutritional deficiency.  2
