BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE!

It is my honour and pleasure once again to salute

the readership of the AGGS Yearbook and also
congratulate the graduating Class of 2019.

AGGS has continued to be a vibrant community
where the training of godly girls for a
purposeful future is pursued with unrelenting

         commitment.
Sharing the view expressed by Benjamin
Disraeli, a one-time member of the British

Parliament, that the youth of a nation are the
trustees of posterity, we are more determined
to ensure that our girls inculcate a yearning for Estelle Ngozi OZIGBO

acquiring knowledge, imbibing good character Principal
and attaining excellence so that they can stand
head tall in future and take up the mantle of leadership.

Today, we are commemorating the graduation of our wonderful Class of 2019.
In Canada, this event will be termed “Commencement”, which means the

“beginning”. It seems like a strange word for something that feels more like an
“ending”; but I suppose something needs to end in order for a new beginning to
be possible. You are going to make the big jump from secondary school to a
higher institution. We have watched you grow over the years, and we know that

you all are ready to make this move. It has been a great pleasure to watch you all
         grow with the school.

You are extremely talented students and we are all so proud of who you have
become. We know that you will put all you have learned at AGGS into practice
and find your own way to make the world a better place.

When I graduated from Secondary School in 1980, my uncle's wife (an Irish)

gave me a poem by Max Ehrmann called “Deśiderata”. It was written in 1920s
and it contains many pearls of wisdom that are relevant today which I would like
to share with you. It's a bit long so I have cut out some parts:

“Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
