WHY STUDENTS ENGAGE IN EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE?

This is a very big problem in Nigeria school system, so I have taken upon myself to talk about
          this.
In a formal school system, examination is the means by which students knowledge of the
curriculum is evaluated. There are usually rules and regulation that guide the conduct of student
sitting for an examination. There are also punishments for misbehaviour in case of students that
          contravene the rules.
Examination malpractice, therefore is any form of activities or behavior of candidate sitting for
an examination which does not conform to the rules and regulation guiding the conduct of the
          examination.
There are different ways to examination malpractice:
          1. Bringing unprepared answers to the hall
          2. Using entirely different candidate to write examination
          3. Copying answers from another candidate during examination
          4. Writing probable answers before the commencement of the examination on the
          examination desk
          5. Writing probable answers on body parts

Examination malpractice is an unacceptable conduct. it is caused by a number of factors. Here
          are some of them::

                1. POOR ATTENDANCE IN CLASS:
SOME STUDENTS ARE NOT REGULAR IN SCHOOL. THOSE THAT ARE REGULAR
IN SCHOOL DO NOT STAY IN CLASS. WHEN STUDENTS DO NOT STAY IN
CLASSES, THEY WILL NOT HAVE COURAGE FOR EXAMINATION INDEPENDENTLY
AND THEREBY LOOK FOR A 'SHORT CUT' TO EXAMINATION SUCCESS.

                2. LAZINESS
MANY STUDENTS CANNOT SIT DOWN AND STUDY FOR EXAMINATION. THEY
THEREFORE RESORT TO ILLEGAL AND UNACCEPTABLE ACTIVITIES DURING
                   EXAMINATION.

                3. BREAKDOWN OF SOCIAL VALUES AND ETHICS
GONE ARE THE DAYS WHEN VALUES OF HARDWORK, DETERMINATION AND
DEDICATION RULE THE AFFAIRS OF STUDENTS PREPARING FOR EXAMINATION.
NOWADAYS CANDIDATES PREPARING FOR EXAMINATION LOOK FOR
EXAMINATION SUCCESS THROUGH OTHER QUESTIONABLE MEANS.

                4. PARENTS/SOCIETAL BAD INFLUENCE
NOWADAYS, PARENTS CONNIVED WITH THEIR CHILDREN TO CHEAT DURING
EXAMINATION. SOME OF THESE PARENTS EVEN BUY QUESTION PAPERS FOR
                   THEIR CHILDREN OR WARDS.

                5. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEFICIENCY IN SCHOOL
THE EXAMINATION HALLS IN SOME SCHOOLS DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH SITTING
SPACE FOR THE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES THEY ARE PRESENTING FOR
EXAMINATION THEY THEREFORE ALLOW STUDENTS TO SIT CLOSE TO EACH
OTHER IN THE EXAMINATION HALL. THIS ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO COPY
                   FROM EACH OTHER.
