Page 32 - Racing Toward Judgement
P. 32
13. Mercenary Missionaries
This nation will be judged for expanding its wickedness
to the far corners of the earth. Like a whirlwind, we
have spread our iniquities from nation to nation.
Prostitutes charge for their services—men pay
with many gifts. But not you, you give them gifts,
bribing them to come to you! So you are different
from other prostitutes. But you had to pay them,
for no one wanted you.
(Ezekiel 16:33,34 LB)
With bribery, cheating, and deceit, this nation has
corrupted the innocent as well as the willing. Europe
sends to our shores pornography, smut, and corrupt
movies. America sends to Europe and the world a
"spirit of deception." The rewarding of corruption
through unlawful bribes is the sin of extortion that God
must judge.
Must I forever see this sin and sadness all
around me? Wherever I look there is oppression
and bribery and men who love to argue and to
fight. The law is not enforced and there is no jus-
tice given in the courts, for the wicked far outnum-
ber the righteous, and bribes and trickery prevail.
(Habakkuk 1:3,4LB)
America has made all the earth drink from its cup of
iniquity. Once we were known for sending missionaries
to deliver men and societies from the bondage of sin
and corruption. We once sought to cover the nakedness
and expel the darkness of undeveloped nations. Now
America condones the nakedness and exports its own
deeds of darkness. We bribe the world seeking favors.
But no, my people are like crafty merchants
selling from dishonest scales—they love to cheat.
Ephraim boasts, "I am so rich! I have gotten it all
by myself!" But riches can't make up for sin.
(Hosea 12:7,8LB)
