In Chinese, there are a lot of quantifiers for nouns. Nouns such as table,
chair, dog, and horse can be modified with different quantifiers (張、把、
隻、匹) respectively. As a result, Chinese quantifiers can be fairly challeng-
ing for foreign learners, that’s the reason why they generally use 個(ge),
which is very commonly used in day-to-day context, to replace other quantifi-
ers. Some of the quantifiers are shared in Chinese and Japanese. For example,
個、本、人、匹. In Chinese, 本 is used to calculate the amount of books,
magazines and the like. Whereas in Japanese, the same character 本 is used to
quantify something stick-like, such as pencil, umbrella, and tree.
