PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE CONTINUED
MEMBER INPUT SOUGHT:
• Lifetime Member Award
• Costs Associated with Assessment Fees and Custom Orthoes
• Survey: Journal of Hand Therapy
analysis he requires a sample of fee guides or suggested fee guide that CHT normally charge to their clients for their services. He will be comparing these fees to the ones charged by orthotists
Unfortunately, we do not have enough information to provide him at the present time. Executive plans to send our a brief survey to our members sometime in March to gather information on costs associated with assessment fees and more commonly prescribed custom orthoses. We will share this information through a later edition of the newsletter. u
SURVEY MONKEY SUBSCRIPTION
The executive voted to purchase a one-year subscription to Survey Monkey at our last meeting. Our plan is to use this tool to seek information from our members to assist us in advocating on the society’s behalf and to better inform our decisions.
One of the society’s major expenditures is our subscription to the Journal of Hand Therapy. Our current contract with Elsevier, the journal’s publisher, is charges the society US $25.00 per member per year plus GST. With the current membership fee being $50 per member annually, and the low Canadian dollar over the past year, executive has been concerned that more than half of our revenue from membership funds is being allocated to this one item. In addition, our other sources of revenue are quite variable, (these being advertising and our annual conference).
Recognizing that access to the Journal of Hand Therapy is of great benefit to hand therapists and wanting to do our due diligence in justifying this expense, we sought information from the publisher on the traffic through the CSHT website to the journal. Unfortunately, the journal’s publisher is unable to provide the executive with any information on usage; hence the need for a survey.
Our first survey was sent out January 30th to solicit information on access to the Journal of Hand Therapy through our website. At the time of writing this message, the survey is still open. We will be sharing this information with the membership at the Annual General Meeting in Ottawa in April.u
