A Champion Without Hands
At the age of twenty one, Asaf Yasur is once again the taekwondo world
champion. The story of the amputee Israeli athlete is known. When he was
twelve years old he climbed onto the roof of an electrical room to retrieve
a lost ball where he was electrocuted and had both his hands damaged by
a high voltage line. Since the injury, Yasur embarked on an inspiring
journey of recovery. Little by little he acquired abilities and today he
manages to do things without his hands that amaze everyone around him.
He began training in Taekwondo at the age of sixteen together with non-
disabled athletes. In two thousand twenty one, Yasur won his first World
Championship which was held in Istanbul. Since then, he has been at the
top of the world Taekwondo rankings. This victory is Yasur’s second gold
medal with an additional meaning - it guarantees his ticket to the
Paralympic Games in Paris, to take place in eleven months.
