                    Going Back to the Future

We’re here. Welcome to October twenty first, two thousand fifteen. The
day when Marty McFly and Doc Brown go back to the future. What
captivated the fans was those imaginary gadgets that appeared in the
movie, but what really happened since? Flying cars? No. a flying
skateboard? Not really. Shoes with automated laces? Still no. Hi-tech
glasses? Yes, if you consider Goggle Glass, the especially ambitious
project that officially failed this year and went back to the drawer. Video
conference calls? Definitely yes, and in two thousand fifteen we talk via
video on our smartphones as well. Over the course of the three decades
that passed since the movie trilogy, scientists around the world (have been)
trying to follow products from the movie. Mankind, who have reached the
moon and discovered water on Mars, have still not been able to create the
shoes from Back to the Future, though Nike made sneakers that just look
like the original. One thing is certain, in the thirty years that passed since
that blockbuster, special effects in today’s science fiction movies have
become a little more convincing.
