                      Meat Once a Month?

The dramatic announcement by the World Health Organization yesterday,
according to which processed meat causes cancer, caught food
manufacturers in Israel, and probably overseas as well, unprepared. So
what’s right and wrong according to the World Health Organization?
Here’s a reminder: processed meat that may cause cancer includes
hotdogs, sausages, burgers, coldcuts, smoked meat, preserved meat, and
grilled meat, barbecue. Today in the afternoon Israel’s Ministry of Health
published a number of recommendations regarding healthy nutrition,
following the warning that processed meat is carcinogenic. These are the
recommendations: diversifying protein sources to vegan protein as well,
like lentils, green peas and chickpeas; diversifying meat kinds to different
ones, and also, (you) don’t have to eat meat every day at all; restricting the
consumption of processed meat, especially for children, no more than once
a month; eating meals regularly, and increasing the consumption of natural
foods like fruits, vegetables, beans and wholegrain. The problem is that
kids really love hotdogs and burgers. At least in some cases, it won’t be
easy to take them down to only once a month.
