How was the Song "Jerusalem of Gold" Born?

Teddy Kollek, the mayor of Jerusalem, wanted a special song
for the annual Song Festival on Independence Day in 1967. He
asked Naomi Shemer to write the song and Naomi wrote
"Jerusalem of Gold".
The song tells about Jerusalem. Naomi Shemer wrote the song a
short time before the Six-Day War and the song talks about
places in Jerusalem that the Jews could not reach, like the
Temple Mount: in the middle of the city there was a big wall
and half of the city was in the hands of Jordanians.
The song was very successful at the festival and until today
everyone in Israel know it and love it very much.
The Six Day War began three weeks after the festival, and all of
Jerusalem returned to Israeli hands.
After the war too, the song Jerusalem of Gold was very popular,
and it became a second quasi anthem of the State of Israel
