English Translation
Lulav (palm branch) – It grows in the heart of the top of
the date tree, the palm tree. From this it got it’s name – lo
lev (“it has a heart”). Our lulav must be straight. The
lulav must be fresh and not dry, and it’s upper edge must
be tight and whole. The lulav’s leaves must be close to
the spine. If it is open like a fan, it is not kosher. The
lulav is the most dominant and the biggest of all the four
species. Therefore, the entire mitzvah is called by its
name – the mitzvah of taking the lulav.
