The Peddlers’ Market - Dialogue
Peddler: Friends, everything cheap! Everything cheap! Don’t say
later, “It’s a shame I didn’t buy (it)!”
Girl: Excuse me, what are you selling here?
Peddler: Whatever you [don’t] want.
Girl: Why would I buy what I don’t want?
Peddler: You didn’t understand me… First time at the market?
Girl: I’ve already been to a few markets, but I haven’t been here yet.
Peddler: So let me explain something to you, listen carefully. This
is the best market in the world. You wouldn’t find this many
bargains anywhere else! Here, have you ever seen such a thing?
Girl: Hmm, yes. It’s only a screwdriver.
Peddler: This is a screwdriver that was used by Napoleon to defeat
the opposers at the time of the Second Temple! It’s a piece of
history!
Girl: Napoleon? Second Temple? Well, thank you sir.
Peddler: Wait a minute, why are you running away?
Girl: I’m actually looking for books.
Peddler: So why didn’t you say so? I have loads of book! Here,
take.
Girl: This is a book in German. I don’t read German.
Peddler: Well, even better! Learn a new language! Believe me, you
could use it [lit. wouldn’t harm you].
Girl: You told the truth, you really do sell everything I don’t want…
