Binyan Pi'el - Past Tense

‫ְל‬In Binyan Pi’el we omit the infinitive form prefix , while

maintaining the sound pattern of the infinitive form:

‫ ַד ֵבר‬ ‫ְל ַד ֵבר‬

We then change the sound pattern to match the name of the
Binyan – Pi'el:

…A...E...  …EE…E

To this basic "kernel" we add the corresponding suffixes, according to
the pronouns. As an example, let’s use the verb:

to talk – ‫ְל ַד ֵבר‬
‫ ִדי ֵבר‬‫ ַד ֵבר‬ ‫ְל ַד ֵבר‬

Pronoun  ‫ ּו‬ ‫ ה ֵהם‬ ‫ִהיא‬  ‫הּוא‬
Suffix
‫ּו‬+‫ה ִדי ְבר‬+‫ִדי ְב ָר‬ ‫ִדי ֵבר‬
Suffix  ‫ִדי ֵבר‬
‫ִדי ְברּו‬ ‫ִדי ְב ָרה‬

*Note that the kernel for ‫ הּוא‬is different from the kernel for ‫ ִהיא‬and ‫ ֵהם‬.

For the second chart, we use a slightly different “kernel”:
