One of Kyoto's oldest (founded in 711 AD) and most revered Shinto shrines,
Fushimi Inari serves as the headquarters for all the 40,000 shrines dedicated to
Inari across Japan. Inari, the kami that Fushimi Inari-Taisha is dedicated to, is
a popular figure in Shinto practice and is the Japanese deity of foxes, rice,
fertility, agriculture, industry, and general prosperity. Take a hike through the
visually stunning, thousands and thousands of vermilion Torii gates, spread
across a thickly wooded mountain and take back an experience worth
remembering. It’s especially enchanting when done at dusk or dawn, away
from the usual crowd that throngs Inari. Just don’t get spooked out by the
Shinto graveyards on the way. No Entry Fee. Open 24*7.
