When you think of some of the great

Blues Fest around the country, the Tall

City Blues Fest in Midland, Texas,

probably does not make your top ten -- or

maybe it does not even hit your radar.
Midland, Texas, is not exactly a place one

associates with the blues; however, you
might want to change your thinking.

The Tall City Blues Fest has been running

for eleven years now…thirteen actually if

you count the two COVID shut down
Guy King
years. It might not attract the sexy

headliners such as Shemekia Copeland,

Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Joe

Bonamassa, or others, but this year’s

headliner, Guy King, is not one to sneeze

at.

Chicago-based Guy King has been

named by Vintage Guitar Magazine as

“Chicago’s Latest Royalty.” His 2016

album Truth reached number 1 on the

Blues Contemporary Chart, earning him a

Blues Music Award nomination for “Best

Emerging Artist.” His latest album, “Joy is

Coming,” was released in 2021. The

single “Devil’s Toy,” from the album,

features Joe Bonamassa.
