Opening the 2023 fest was Never 2 Young,
led by 17-year-old Leon Carrasco. The band

represented West Texas earlier this year at
         the International Blues Challenge Youth
         Showcase in Memphis.

Leo Hull and The Texas Blues Machine Never Too Young

were second on the bill, another Texas
blues musician. Leo has released four
         albums and a live DVD.

The Mighty Orq was up next. The Houston-

based performer describes his music as
“Gulf Coast music,” a blend of delta blues,
folk, bluegrass, and rock. The Mighty Orq

has released eight studio albums and has
                                                                                                    Leo Hull and The
won multiple Houston Press Awards for Texas Blues Machine
         “Best Guitarist” and “Best Blues.”

Self-taught guitarist Ruben V rounded out
the under bill. Ruben V has also released

eight solo albums over his career. As his bio
states, his music is a blend of blues, Latin,
soul, and rock. Just the perfect act to get the

         crowd ready for Guy King!

                                                                                                   The Mighty Orq
Fans of the blues were not disappointed
with the 2023 Tall City Blues Fest. It is one

fest that might not attract a lot of media
attention, but it is one that is well worth the
trip to Midland, Texas, to experience in

         2024.
