The lights dimmed once again, and the song Time Warp began to play as members of
Static-X enacted the exhuming of late lead singer Wayne Static’s body with a shovel on
stage. As the song progressed, the new, mystery lead singer, Xer0, took the stage. Xer0
climbed a set of stairs that led to a tall microphone. Donning a new white and blue mask
with nearly a foot of black mohawk-style spiked hair and Terminator-like red glowing eyes,
Xer0 navigated the stage set up effortlessly.
Xer0 (long rumored to be Edsel
Dope), officially started the set
with the song Permanence, with
the set list mostly comprised of
songs from the Wisconsin Death
Trip and Machine albums.
Toward the end of the 14-song
set list, the band dedicated the
song Cold to Wayne Static.
As Static-X closed out the night with the song Push It, fans remarked on the show’s
dedication to Wayne’s memory. Whoever Xer0 is, clearly, he cared very much for Wayne
and has made it his mission, along with the remaining band members, to ensure Wayne’s
legacy and music lives on in the community’s hearts. As Edsel Dope said at the opening
of the show, “We’ll keep doing this for as long as you want it,” and as evidenced by three
sold out shows, the fans are more than happy to show up and rock on!
