The guys self-label their category of
music as “Alt-Country.” A good
friend and Tennessee legend
himself, Thom Cavin, described Alt-
Country as “Not the music your
Grandpa listens to, but the music
your Grandma loves.”
The band was founded in 2020 by
front man Zach Chastain and lead
guitarist Slaten Dooley. Both had
been performing as solo acts and
had begun to play together as a
duet when they decided to put
together a band. They noticed their
style of original music was drawing
a crowd that was “half hippies and
half cowboys.” Both were fans of
Merle Haggard’s “Strangers” album
and had an infatuation with aliens.
After discussing all the above, the
name “Cosmic Strangers” was born.
