The guys went to work and recorded their freshman album, simply titled
“The Sound.” The album is filled with some great music that includes
the songs “Rut,” “Sunday Blues," and my actual favorite, “After Dark.”
They filmed a dynamic video for that song that shows the guys rescuing
a lost alien. They take him to the farm and show him the ways of country
life. The album is a rich mix of country, blues, and hard-driving rock.
Slaten seems to always add the right amount of spice to his remarkable
guitar work. His solos remind me of some very familiar 70’s rock
legends.
After a few changes at bass guitar and drums, the guys finally found
their missing ingredient with the addition of music veterans Roger
McDowell on bass and drummer Towson Engsberg. They immediately
went to work in the studio on the new song “Hard Country.” Zach, the
band’s songwriter, says the song is about a late-night phone call with
his mom after a long string of bar gigs. It revolves around his defense of
“the life” and her advice to him.
