MH: OnesAll, thank you for your time and for talking with us about your music. Please share with our
readers who the members of OnesAll are and the instruments they play.
OnesAll: Kathi McKay (Mom) vocals/keyboard, John Stafford (Dad) guitar/vocals, Jordan Stafford (Son)
vocals/percussion, Brock Lange (Son) bass/guitar, and Jovaniel Rosario (Bonus Child) drums.
MH: I sometimes ask this question to my artists, ‘How did you all meet?’ But, since you're all family,
I'll ask instead, ‘How much harder is it working as a band and knowing that after a rehearsal or a
show, you're all going home...together?’
Brock Lange: If anything, it makes it easier. Most bands -- most relationships -- only survive because of good
communication. Since we are all so close and spend so much time together, it means we're all pretty much
on the same page at all times as a band. We even hang out on our ‘off’ days, too, so we're happy to spend
the extra time together!
Kathi McKay: As the Mom, I definitely agree, of course. I think it is heaven on earth to get to spend time with
any of our children or eight grandchildren, any day, any time.
John Stafford: We only wish our daughter was in the band, too! She's the great natural singer we all wish we
were, but she is busy raising four of our granddaughters. When she was 14 years old, the year before
American Idol, she won a singing contest in L.A. and was approached by Barry Gordy of Motown.
MH: Kathi and John, you both have a history in the music business that goes way back before
OnesAll. Share a little about that and your road to the present.
Kathi McKay: In the 80's, we opened for main acts like Three Dog Night and Hiroshima and were managed
by the manager of KC and the Sunshine Band. But after living ‘on the road’ for several years, we finally
realized we were crazy to have our kids to continue to live this lifestyle as they got older. It took us a while to
transition to a ‘normal’ home life (in one city) -- but only after Brock had been in 28 states before he was a
year old and our daughter Kagran found a heroin pot and needle beside a bed in a Nashville hotel when she
was 4 years old! After performing in about 40 states, we chose Tucson, AZ, to raise our family.
John Stafford: Yeah, it is very difficult to make money as a musician, so we were trying to make a living the
best way we knew how. When we decided to move to Tucson, we were determined to do what was best for
our family and to have a stable home because we knew we would be rewarded in the end. And I am here to
tell you that we have been richly rewarded!
MH: Let’s talk about your album, ‘Art of Love,’ which is fantastic! How would you classify it?
John Stafford: I guess you could say, generally speaking, our music is in the rock genre, but there are
influences of funk, jazz, prog, and blues. How would you classify Sting, Seal, with a mix of Toto and Earth,
Wind and Fire? There we are.
Jordan Stafford: The album is a musical statement as well as performance piece. We write music that speaks
to us, regardless of the style that it's classified in. We try to create music for the audience as well as for the
artist. It seems that the music took on a life of its own when we found formulas that worked well for us. This
album is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the thousands of songs that we have recorded over the
years that might not even touch the mainstream spotlight. Of course, we plan to write many more!
