Tim Board: How did you get started in music?
Vaughn Prangley: My granny gave me a nylon string classical guitar for my 9 birthday. I then started
th
taking classical guitar lessons. This is where my passion for finger style guitar playing was born. I
eventually got bored of learning songs from the 1600s and started messing around with whatever
came to mind. I often got into trouble with my guitar teacher for not learning the songs he had given
me. ‘Vaughn did you practice this week?’ ‘No, but I came up with this …’ is how most guitar lessons
would go. I then started writing and singing my own music at around 13. I was introduced to a
producer when I was 15 and the rest is history.
TB: Who are your influences in music?
VP: I fell in love with Ben Howard’s first two albums. His music was a huge inspiration, and I
completely admired his guitar playing, but my music taste is all over the place. Kaleo, Bon Iver, Kings
of Leon, and Eminem are some of my favorites.
TB: Do you remember the first song you wrote, and have you ever recorded that song and
released to the world?
VP: The first ever song I wrote was a song called ‘Life Killer.’ The song spoke about climate change
and how selfish humans are with the beautiful planet we live on. It has never been released or
recorded. It is saved as an MP3 in the back of my mind.
