As for Blue October, I was unfamiliar with their music until their set left me awestruck. The
band showcased an impressive style that resonated with the audience, who danced and
sang along. I later learned that the lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld, shared a touching story
about how Switchfoot's "Dare You to Move" helped him overcome his struggles with
addiction. Since 2012, he has embraced sobriety and has a deep connection to his daughter,
whom he named "Blue" in memory of her late mother.
This night was truly unforgettable, filled with excitement, vibrant energy, and laughter shared
with Matt Nathanson, all while capturing the essence of photographing one of my idols,
Switchfoot. The rooftop at Pier 17 is one of my favorite concert venues. You can see the
Brooklyn Bridge in the background of the stage where the artist performed. The night was
both windy and calm, all in all, a very beautiful night.
In a delightful twist, I overcame my initial nerves with the
house photographer, as we shook hands and connected
on Instagram. It seems I'm beginning to forge
friendships within the concert photography community.
