Caroline Jones grew up as a student of many types of
music -- from opera to pop to R&B -- both as a vocalist and
instrumentalist on piano, guitar, banjo, harmonica, and
others. In her late teens, she embraced country music after
visiting Nashville, and a decade later (and five albums
later) is a well-known rising star of the genre.
In fact, in the last couple years, Rolling Stone called her
one of “10 Need-to-know Country Artists” and Billboard put
her on its list of “15 Country Artists to Watch.” If not for
those labels, after listening to a set of her music, you would
be hard-pressed to call her music “country” or within the
bounds of any genre, for that matter.
It seems her diverse background, coupled with remarkable
musicianship and creative songwriting, leads to music that
isn’t so easily categorized. Caroline could pursue and find
success in singer-songwriter, pop, blues, rock, or indie
music just as much as she could country. But she doesn’t
seem too concerned about those constraints and instead
embraces great songwriting.
Her talents get the attention of many, which may explain
why she has toured or performed with many artists in the
last few years – Zac Brown Band, The Eagles,
OneRepublic, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Vince Gill, and
Trisha Yearwood. One notable collaboration was with
Jimmy Buffet, who played alongside her at a benefit in
2017, and before long, had her join his tour and signed her
to his label. He was even further inspired to write a song
for her and then joined her in recording it along with Kenny
Chesney, Lukas Nelson, and Mac McAnally. That song,
“Gulf Coast Girl,” was released this past summer.
