Over the years, these multi-talented rappers produced so many chart-topping
hits, including their 1994 song “C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around
Me),” “Triumph,” and “Method Man.” Throughout their busy career, they have
released a total of seven albums, including “Wu-Tang Forever,” “The W,”
“Iron Flag” and “8 Diagrams.” Most of their albums achieved certified gold or
platinum ranking making the group a huge global sensation.
As I waited in the pit with other photographer friends for the arrival of Wu-
Tang Clan, I could feel the anticipation and energy in the air. I turned around
and I could see (and hear) the audience -- loud and primed for the show.
Then it was lights out and the intro began. One by one, each member came
out singing a verse at a time of “Bring Da Rukus.”
As I get older, it sometimes becomes hard to distinguish who is who, but not
where Method Man is concerned. Right off the bat, I recognized him from his
facial expressions and great smile. Young Dirty Bastard performed songs in
place of where his father would be singing.
The group performed songs off their “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)”
album, along with several covers. My favorite was a rendition of The Beatles’
“Come Together,” which sounded fantastic! And in the end, the group
performed Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” The stage was so busy with
members moving across the stage that it became hard to keep focus on
individuals.
I’m so glad that I jumped at this concert. Otherwise I would be kicking myself
for missing this awesome show. Why? Because Tucson was the last city of
their 25-date tour in celebration of their 25th Anniversary of their debut studio
album, which kicked off in London, UK on May 10, 2019 at SSE Arena. Who
knows if they’ll tour the states again as original members? We can only cross
our fingers.
